M-di h'dlak Thei-de (No Fear Death) [Final Attempt]

Post by Renomaki » 23 Apr 2017, 01:31

Byond ID: Renomaki

Marine Name (so we know who you are, if you play alien mostly, state that here): Reno ‘Weenie’ Story

Name of the character you want whitelisted (The name your predator will use. This must match your in-game predator name): M-di h'dlak Thei-de (No Fear Death)

Are you familiar with the Predator Code Of Honor?

Oh, I should have a good idea of the honor code by now, let alone having spent time watching and observing how predators play and fight. Might still have a lot to learn about the little things here and there, though, since from observation, there are a lot of little things here and there about what is and isn’t valid that I have yet to fully understand.

Character background (A very BRIEF description of your predators background):

Since he was old enough to train, M-di h'dlak Thei-de spent much of his life preparing his mind, body and soul to become one of the many hunters that represented his village back on Yautja Prime, a little place simply known as Gkei'moun ju'dha, or Easy Water for the English speakers out there.

Easy Water, for those curious few, was known as a very tranquil place, famous for its great waterfall and water of such clarity that if the waters were to be still, you’d assume the surface was a fine glass. The village was a popular place for meditation and training, the very air of it bringing focus into the minds of young training hunters. Sometimes even the elite would visit this place to hone their skills and purify their spirits before setting out into the great void of space in search of a good hunt.

Despite the reputation the village has for its tranquil nature, M-di h'dlak Thei-de never did get to enjoy that peaceful setting an awful lot. When he wasn’t about doing his chores, he spent many hours training at the riverside Dojo, working himself sore along with dozens of other students who shared the same dream he had: To bring glory and honor to their home village through the Hunt.

While everyone at the Dojo was a very fine sort, no doubt, M-di h'dlak Thei-de was quite the daring Yautja, not one to be afraid to take on challenges that other younglings would express nervousness towards, always keeping an eager disposition even when he himself was uncertain of his success. Such a personality always did make his teacher proud to have him as a student throughout the years, from his times as a young pup till the days he became a proper blooded after returning from his first real hunt.

While such a positive and eager attitude certainly helped him through his rather rough childhood, it isn’t without its issues. More than once during his youth, M-di h'dlak Thei-de had been involved in some rather reckless behavior, be it as simple as taking shortcuts through the rooftops of his village much to the displeasure of his mother, to that one time he challenged one of his larger classmates to a spar after tiring of the verbal abuse he had to endure due to being a “teacher’s pet”. It didn’t end very well for him, but even after getting battered and bruised, he still kept his fearless temperament and would continue to be willing to push himself to be the best he can be, and dare to do what most might not.

This nature of his was carried with him since the day he left Yautja Prime along with his fellow hunters in search of fine game to bring honor to themselves and their homes, him now a fine young man who often lightens the mood of those around him and inspires a select few. Deep down, though, he couldn’t help but be a tad homesick after sailing through the coldness of space, the only memento he has to remind him of his beautiful home being a small prayer-bead neckless he received from his mother, which he proudly keeps around his neck at all times.

Still though… He misses the tranquility of the falls…

How do you intend to play your predator (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your predator. This will weigh HEAVILY and frequently breaking from this MAY result in removal)?

As you’d expect, I’d like to try and keep stealthy for the most part, stalking quietly from the darkness and seeking that which I feel would be worth taking, be it xeno or human. I may lay a trap here and there to make people drop #2s, hit people in the back of the head with garbage to drive them insane with paranoia, that sorta thing.

Other than that, though, I play my hunter as a more braver sort, the kind that, as his name implies, isn’t afraid to die like a man in a fight, who is willing to take risks to achieve his goals, and generally one that keeps a positive attitude throughout the hunt no matter how bad things might get. Even in death, he will gladly compliment his rival’s success in beating him, and in defeating his enemies, he will express his enjoyment from a fight well fought, or at least that they put forth an effort in trying to kill him.

Sometimes he might even come off as jolly, at least by Yautja standards… Doesn’t mean he doesn’t know sadness, though.

Why should we whitelist you?

You know, this is a good question, considering my past attempts ended with me pulling out of frustration and emotional distraught.

This will be the third, and probably final time I ever try this. If I get denied outright, so be it, but god damn it I’m tired of this constant conflict I have to endure...

The first time I gave up, it was because I had lost interest in CM and wanted to get away from it… But I missed the community and struggled to find something worthwhile to replace it, so I came back after close to a month of having left.

After a while, I felt compelled to try again, so I did, having tried to improve my app to better suit the lore, although the app itself had its flaws I admit, and wasn’t quite as good as the last one. Then, after having a really rough emotional time for reasons personal, I pulled out again due to wanting to leave the community for a while, since I believed being inactive for a few weeks was going to result in my app being denied anyways.

So… Why try again, you ask? Why bother after failing so many times? It’ll just end in disappointment anyways.

And yeah, it probably will end in disappointment. I’m No Xur, no Toroic, No Feweh… Hell, even Carson nearly became a hunter simply because of his fame in the community.

I been a part of this community for a long time, having been quite verbal in the forums and fairly active in game. I have worked hard to get my damn name known, and by now it should be fairly known, at least by a modest few good folk. Yet I feel that that even with all that, I might not still make it into the ranks.

Despite that, I still wanna try, if only to finally put an end to my daydreaming of predator adventures.

I already had a fair few experiences against predators, both as an alien and as a marine, and always did enjoy a good scuffle with them when I had the chance to. There was just something so… Satisfying to be able to have the honor of fighting one hand to hand, and to be worthy enough to be hunted is both scary and very flattering. Every time I had an interaction with predators, I always wondered what it would be like to be in their shoes one day… To be the one that drives a select brave few out into the shadows to try and hunt their hunter, to engage in a violent struggle, and then judge them as they struggle to stand before you, deciding if they were worthy enough to reward and send home, or end their suffering right then and there… Such a thrill I always wanted.

If you think that, after all this time, I am finally worthy of joining the ranks of headhunters to indulge in the honor of the hunt, I would be most grateful (even if I am only ever really able to partake in a single hunt). But, if you think I can’t handle it, well… I won’t hold it against you. I am here to be judged, after all, and if after a total of 7-ish months of working towards this moment I am considered not good enough to you, then so be it.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?

I think the furthest I gone here was getting a note for minor powergaming, installing some reinforced glass panes to provide extra durability for the Dropship windows. Other than that, I haven’t ever had suffered a ban from the server, although it probably helps that I normally am very apologetic when I do wrongs that are pointed out, instead of lashing out like some people I know.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?

From what little knowledge I have, I don’t think I am banned from anywhere. I was permaed from Goon many years ago, but since then, it was lifted during the great purge… Or was it? I never dared to check after my awful experience with them.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or disobey the Predator Code of Honor?

I would be disappointed as any other to lose such a role, but I wouldn’t try to argue against it if I am no longer deemed honorable enough to play the role.

I do not often comment on predator applications because I have no stake, but I hope to see you get predator. You know how to RP and are incredibly good at it. +1

Please don't pull it again at the last moment though.

I'm going to make a promise to myself that I'm going to let this one sink through no matter what.

After all, this is my last attempt. if I fail, I'm never going to make another one, because the humiliation of failing for the 3rd time will be enough for me. I'd rather accept my fate with dignity than be forced to wait another 3 months to try again.

I do hope the best, though.. I have changed a lot since my last app, my public opinion having changed a fair bit too. How this affects my chances, I am not sure... I can only wait and see.

As others have said, Reno is a pretty good rper, and I think he'd be a pred that'd actually be interesting for people to interact with.
"Memories can be vile. Repulsive little brutes, like children I suppose. But can we live without them? Memories are what our reason is based upon. If we can't face them, we deny reason itself! Although, why not? We aren't contractually tied down to rationality. There is no sanity clause. So when you find yourself locked down in an unpleasant train of thought, heading for the places in your past where the screaming is unbearable, remember: There's always madness. You can just step outside and close the door, and all those dreadful things that happened, you can lock them away. Madness... is an emergency exit."

Look, Reno, you've had this weird self-discouragement thing going on every time you do an app. You seem to ignore the fact that you always receive nearly unanimous support and your previous apps only didn't make it through because you backed out. I'm not going to play the self-help counsellor, but you should keep this in mind.

The backstory is good. Not great. Could be improved upon, certainly, but you try to express that there is a more peaceful and human part of the Yautja, and to a point it does work, but it's a bit overdone in your app.

The playstyle is bland and generic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The latter portion of the playstyle doesn't really describe a playstyle, though. More your attitude towards losing.

Reno, I know that if given the chance, you would likely do great things with this role. I'd love to give you a +1, but the app itself is half-baked. I can't go with either side on this one. Neutral.
Anything you can do, I can do better, sooner or later I'm greater than you.

Ayyyyye, it's your boi Reno "Weenie" Story! C'mere ya big weenie, what ya doing in dis part of the interwebs? Oh you're applying for that fancy spangled title of some kind of imaginary whitelist? Alright, I'll give you the scoop.

Hey Reno, you're someone in game that I've seen often and often enjoy the experience in which I spend with you. You obviously fit the criteria of a formidable roleplayer and a good person, the application itself is pretty straight forward. Though it's not INSANELY amazing, it's got the things that make it an acceptable application. You've fit right in with the other Predators, just have to find the puzzle piece first.

I understand if you aren't all that impressed, and I don't blame you.

Making new playstyles, however, is difficult, because it is very easy to end up accidentally hitting the wrong buttons when it comes to the honor code. Predators are known to be (mostly) intelligent hunters, which of course means they can't just run into crowds screaming constantly. Nor can you play a more friendly predator, due to how predators are known to be quite.. Racist. And of course you aren't pick a predator that prefers a certain side or another to hunt, because that would result in biased gameplay. Predators, after all, need to be flexible.

Hell, if it wasn't frowned upon, I'd probably like to play a sniper-styled predator, but that would fall into dishonor due to the nature of how the hunt works, with ranged weapons only being deployed in situations that require it (such as defending a lodge or suppressing swarms of hostiles that give chase). As I implied earlier, I am not entirely experienced as to what is going too far yet and don't want to go too crazy.. But if I ever get the role, maybe over time I'll develop a personal hunting style that differs from others.

As for the backstory, I admit, I have a bad habit of trying to write a more... Lighter tone of predator, mainly because I just feel that would suit my personality. I don't think I could play an edgy hunter, and in my experience I don't know if I ever really came across a lot of predators that have much in the way of.. Personality. Maybe that is just how they are due to the nature of the role? Maybe I myself might end up that way too over time, I can only try it out for myself to figure out.

All in all, though, I understand your disappointment and am happy that you at least have a neutral opinion on matters at hand.

Ima gonna have to go neutral.

Reno, I love you man, great RP and stellar player. But the app isn't refined enough. As Bolter said, it's half baked.

I realize you labeled this Final Attempt, but I think you should do another go if this doesn't get enough support, you're a great player and would be a great predator, I know this from experience. I just can't +1 it, for the reasons above

Honestly, if I could, I'd just reuse my first story with a few corrections made. I think that was my best work, really.

However, I was afraid that if I went that route, it would be viewed as lazy, so every time I made a new app, I would make a new story to try and improve on the previous, while still trying to keep the traits that I'd want in my personal predator. However, as is noted, each entry got a bit weaker and weaker as I admittedly struggled to keep creative and fresh without seeming too cliche.

After all, as you can see in past apps, compared to most of them, I don't want my pred to have this dark past or darker themes... I want something lighter, a bit emotional, something that shows another side of preds and opens up new possibilities of roleplay, conversation keywords and all that. Last time it was about a predator who misses his father and wishes to honor him, the next was also of a predator who cares for his family and home village and honors them in the hunt, and in the case of my current incarnation, he is a predator that hunts to honor his village and expresses a moderately jolly demeanor as he hunts his prey and brawls with them, enjoying his fights probably more than the average Predator.

But like a few have said already, it isn't as interesting as earlier versions and I admit it wasn't the greatest incarnations of my personal predator either, but I did my best to keep things as fresh as I could and am happy for your input and passive support, even if you aren't entirely for it.

Despite you're a good player and all that, your app is decent too but you need to work more on yourself.
Doubting yourself won't get you anywhere, i got freaking denied 3 times, but hey, i play CM for enjoyment not for ranks and roles. I know that anyone would do great if he becomes a predator but why stop there? You CAN do great just by RPing well whether you're a marine or a xenomorph.
TBH, imma give you my +1 if you promise me that you'll try to apply for the predator again if you fail.

Personally giving my +1; I trust you will do good with this application and I've seen enough to know that you understand the lore, implication and all related issues assignated to the role. Even if the app itself may leave an after-taste, I'll refrain from entirely basing myself on that and give you this note since to my knowledge there's literally no predators that entirely stick to their app and I've liked your reply(ies) on the topic.

Wish your success, have fun and see you around.

PS: Renomaki has a good enough implication in the community to let me say he's alright in that matter; Forgot to mention, but I felt like adding that too as to prove why I'm giving my possitives.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Reno's a Class-A player. So what if he blew up a fueltank to kill me during tribes like a dishonorable bastard? He's probably the best God-damn SL I see play on the regular and he's a RP king EXCEPT WHEN HE TRIES TO BLOW ME UP. He's an ex-mentor, has a Commander whitelist and is an all around well-liked player. As much as I hate Predators AND EVERYONE WHO PLAYS AS THEM I think Reno deserves to be able to join the Elite club of GOD DAMN BACKSTABBERS WHO'LL TAKE OUT ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND YOURSELF JUST BECAUSE YOU LOOKED AT THEM FUNNY. I'm gonna be frank and say that as long as a pred app shows knowledge and understanding of the lore, that's all we can really ask of it.

When I give a + or - for an app it's generally a reflection of how I see the player fitting into the role.

I seen and observed em, if the past corrects me; have had many accidental encounters with as predator; which i quite enjoyed. As sarah did state about some of us generally don't or like super strict to the point where "Okay you didn't do what you said from said app; your goneso from pred". Sorta gotta play and experience yerself in a way, in my hindsight; your one of those players I wouldn't mind seeing at most trying it for a bit or given the chance, well be accepted. Your determination for yer app I quite like aswell, though this may been quite a few attempts, most of the time players just either quit because they made a sorta okay app or one that is flat out denied. You making that there effort; I think I ought to finally see this in action or at most given chance. I'll give yah a +1, RP wise I'd like to see yah, not generally robustness but it tends to help and you eh; I'd trust you then a platoon of baldies on greytide season, lets put it at that.
"Young Carrier (920) (follow) hisses, "Shut up both of you or we aren't going to invade disneyland."

Long time ago, I, Ka'Torag-na Halkrath, Skilled Master Hunter Of Prey, Unleashed an unspeakable evil upon Xenos and Humans! But a foolish Xeno Hunter wielder of robustness stepped forth and opposed me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore a gate of Salt of Solitude and flung em into the world of CM, and took out their Facehugger Capabilities! Now, this Xeno Fool seeks to return the favour, and undo my evil reign and of many other predator predecessors!

If it isn't my boy weenie. You have to be one of the few pepole i enjoyed playing with. You were the only idiot alongside me and two other guys that wasn't sayin "pls comnd iz bumb pls riot reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" when brief wasn't happenening. You were the only one that used rp when i was aiming at him with my taser, and talked it out instead of just running away. You are that one guy that actually deserves this whitelist aplication. I'm sick as shit of preds just oneshotting me because i was pray. I at least want to know that i'm being hunted and i know you're the sort of player that will provide that experience. Hope you kidnap me and we have a duel. Also good luck.

Heh, I'm not gonna make any promises as to how I'll play predator, but if there is one thing I'm going to try to do, it is be a bit more chatty.

A lot of predators tend to be the silent sort, often resorting more to gestures more than anything. When they do talk, they always have this brief way of speaking where they don't really put a lot of personality forward. I believe this is probably due to the nature of the translator, though...

Still, I'd like to at least try to be more verbal as a pred if I can, and attempt to emulate the sort of personality that I imagine him to have, which will be a bit more lively, so to speak. Not to the point where he sounds a tad too out of place, but just enough to give him a personality of his own that can easily be identified, rather than being really hard to determine.

I can't help but imagine him hiding in the shadows, taunting a patrol as he speaks from the darkness, trying to break their focus until they are forced to seek him out, only for him to disappear into the night, if only for a brief moment. That would be very dandy I feel~

People can't understand you if you speak normally which is why players resort to gestures or the translator (which can be hard to decipher).

Heh, yeah, I hope they make some adjustments to the translator. Surely a few tweaks to make it a bit easier to understand would be nice. Some words I can see, but other words are two garbled and often require me to squint.

Then again, I don't get to talk to predators often, so I didn't have a lotta time to study their translator's speech patterns.

From my experience with it it'll swap between legible sentences and %%%%%%%1 at a whim. Probably best to try not to rely on it should you get accepted.
I play Garth Pawolski; Commander, Combat Engineer, and more often than not, random dead guy.

I'm the predator Nracha-dte Kv'var-de (Relentless Hunter).

Ah well, I guess I'd have to work somethin out should I get accepted.

After all, you can't really learn much just by watching alone, you gotta DO, you need to make mistakes, and you need to experiment to find what works best and still retain an honorable hunt. I feel I'd need a few good matches before I can truly be a proper hunter like the rest of em.
