SLs get Req Radio

Postby XenonXenotime » 23 Dec 2016, 13:50

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
SLs can speak in req radio, or :U.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
SLs can order the Req people to order things and drop things directly, very useful if there is no RO and has no acsess to the Command channel.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Just... do :u and you can talk to req.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Modify the SL's radio.
Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Meow. Here, Jonesy.

+1 Legitly something we need, what if command were incompetent or even theres only CT but no RO around? SLs are considered command staff I would assume to a certain point, it would help.

+1 It's quite annoying always having to have an intermediary garner you supplies when in all reality you should just be able to cover that yourself. I mean, it's fine to just make a quick request of simple things to command and have them process it, however it would make a lot more sense to allow the option to be omnipresent whilst ensuring it's infallible to an extent. Not much reason not to have it, so a definite thing that could be added in that's a quality of life improvement.

You could take requisition radio encryption keys and pass them to the SLs alternatively.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

+1, squad leaders and not the squad should have access to the supply frequency

Removing the Bo middle man for supplies would be great as it allows streamlined communication, which in turns allows for Squad Leads to have a more direct role in gathering their own supplies and last minute changes would become a lot easier.

I can agree with this, SLs are expected to make a lot of cargo requests, so allowing them a direct link would make things go a lot faster, instead of having to go through command and hoping they remember to ask cargo for what you need.

Ideally SL shouldn't make cargo requests except for himself. A competent BO would know what is needed in general and if marines need something they should tell on the squad/medic channel instead of nagging the SL.

BO is much more capable of being the middle man than SL. What typically happens is spec asking for rockets, RO either heard it or not. If he heard it and responds, it's fine. But often they are silent, BO has to find out if there is an RO or cargo tech, whether they are just silent or SSD, if they listen on the radio or not. I don't think SL has time for begging on cargo channel for an answer. He can't send MPs to check it. And he doesn't know anything about the SM explosion that took cargo. Or about the rogue marine that killed the RO because he didn't get the attachments he wanted.

If you don't want a middle man, then CT should hear the squad channels and med channel (cause they make the medicines). If their is no RO it's a good idea to give a command headset to the cargo tech replacing the RO imo.

Either this or giving CTs a command headset would solve this problem. Giving the CT more channels would probably be a better solution since cargo shouldn't be crippled if the RO is SSD or never joins.

"Chain of command" should be that the BOs are making the request for cargo, not the SLs directly.

I'm willing to listen to more discussion on this, so stickied for now, but expect it to be denied later unless you can really convince me (or other devs) of this.

eh, -1. This should just be something possible in-game, all you need is a screwdriver and the headsets. Make it a strategy to teach people, and for good SL's, not just implemented.

It very clearly says on the wiki that SLs are not command staff, so they shouldn't be able to speak on the requisitions channel. The only reason this is needed is because command staff doesn't do as good of a job as they are supposed to at listening to comms. Constantly I see the RO speaking on the command channel with no one answering them so really this would only help a bit since proper communication doesn't happen anyways.

For lowpop rounds where there may not be an RO there isn't that much clutter in the comm channels so I think the BOs and other command staff would be able to relay properly and I know when I am command on lowpop rounds I don't have much trouble with this.
This is how well the CM community understands the actual military.

BOs are supposed to be the middlemens. ROs already get a fuckton of requests piled up, SLs making additional requests would result in useless confusion tbh.

+1, CTs and ROs usually go SSD whenever they can and since most of the time, command doesn't tell req to order stuff, they go SSD much faster.

Although the RO himself has access to all squad channels that does not mean he/she will tap into the multiple squad comms to make sure supplies are gathered correctly and delivered. We're in the era of Baldie Command, Baldie Doctors, and Baldie Engineering/Cargo. Squad Leaders should have the (Option) to tap into the Cargo comms channel if they don't have access to a BO. BOs in my opinion are only the ones who push a button to send supplies down, or just some guy who happens to be relaying information from the CO/XO of what to do. Its the squad leaders have the most work cut out for them since they have to not only organize their own squad, but lead them as well. I say give Cargo the means of sending supplies down themselves or give squad leader vendors cargo headset keys inside of their vendors.

I totally agree, being a command player.

However I do think this will help a lot during low pop - mediun pop when you usually have one command staff running the whole show,

I play RO quite a bit, ussually i'm toggled into all the squad comms and listen to what they need.
I like the idea but it would pretty much make the BO's useless when it comes to Cargo, i think a nice idea would be giving the CT's radio encryption keys for squads so that if they would want to stay in touch they could just pop in and talk to the squads along with the RO.
Just my two cents

As much as I would love to have access to req directly as an SL I don't think it should become a thing. You still need a middleman to deploy the goods via the Rasp or via the launch pads.

I think it would be far better for BO's to have direct access to a supply request console so that CTs that are overrun with verbal communication receive a paper or digital request that they can check off as they order.

I tend to agree with Apop here for 2 reasons:

1. This is a more true to life way of managing logistics.

2. This allows command to manage their own logistics chain, and prevents SLs from sidestepping the chain of command when they don't get the supplies they like. There may be a perfectly legitimate reason why command hasn't ordered your SADAR ammo crate, but while youre on patrol you might not know that the other squadron needs plastisteel and turrets because the LZ is in danger of being overrun. This prevents SLs from screaming up a storm on Req radio just because their specific crate isn't ordered.

Because of this it's a -1 from me.
