Blown out ears results in the ringing ear effect.

Post by Dirty Old Harry » 26 Dec 2016, 12:21

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): So when you are near a explosive when it goes off, you'll get the ringing ear effect as heard here: https://youtu.be/rHTinEcgLn0.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This should really only add some immersion.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Not just immersion but the effect should die down after a while which lets you know when you can hear others or even let you know how close you are to death at the hands of a screeching Queen. Obviously the effect shouldn't play if you get gibbed from the explosive.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
The MAN, The MYTH, The LEGEND, https://youtu.be/1kXU14hkuSI.

As an aged and weathered old orc once said, "To hold on to something that has lived long past usefulness is unseemly, how much more so when that thing, is you?"

That one old man that USED to run around as Engineer building retarded table forts and developing relationships on a questionable level with sentry turrets. Now i run around as someone equally stupid, doing equally stupid shit as a Medic.

OOOO BOOOOOOY WE HAVE SOMEONE SUGGESTED THIS.

+1

Also as an effect once it starts to lower itself, the sound of the game slowly gets louder.
George S.Patton once said:No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country.

I don't like cute things.

Good hunting.

Funny story actually, first time i got blown up with a brick of C4 and survived i thought it did this sound but then i just realised it was my own ears that had popped.

Goddamned Motherfucking Tinnitus.

Oh jeeze, this'd be a fantastic update. It's not just QOL so you can stop saying things to see if you can hear yet, but it's ALSO incredibly immersive.

Take my +1s!

I can't see it as being anything other than annoying, but I suppose if implemented properly it could be useful and immersive. Tentative +1

Please put a toggle on it. I really get annoyed by COD's ringing effect and most non-ambient midis.

I'm fine with it, but that's one of the things I can't say yes or no to; It's good, but annoys me more than it add any sences of immersion (I can read if you simply add a "Your ears starts ringing.")
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

This would be interesting but I am worried about it being too "annoying" sound wise.

I can positively say that every time I have heard this in every game I play, it has been the most irritating fucking noise and adds absolutely nothing to game play.

Maybe have the noise start as off on default, requiring a preference change to turn it on?

What Noah said, add a field that's named like "Loud noises & Additional sounds: Yes/No" and only run the sound clientside if the field is on...?

Is it too late to -1 this? As someone who has some serious tinnitus from being around too many explosions, sounds like this in video games are cancer and actually hurt to listen to.

I shoulda made the suggestion that the whole being deaf part makes you partially resistant to screeches, like you are still stunned in place but you don't fall to the ground in pain while covering your ears because, well, you can't hear shit.

A that's not exactly how it works but uh... that's not really how it works.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

The screech puts people on the floor if you're close to the bitch when she does it and you still get stunned but not floored if you're further away from her, being deaf should just make you totally ignore getting floored by the screech but still stunned.

What if the ringing sound only lasted 3 or 4 seconds then faded away? Like an initial effect to make it very obvious you have been deafened, but then it fades into silence so you don't get annoyed by it.

If it were a brief sound +1, but if it just rings the whole deaf period then -1.

Keep in mind that this can totally be turned off, if you don't like it then turn it off or if you do like it then turn it on.
