I feel like survivors give the xenos something to do in the beginning of the game. Keeping them more entertaining than hunting down monkeys. They're more like a wild card, they have the possibility of unexpected swings on either side. Survivors team up and hold up in the power plant getting power online, they manage to hold of a small xeno assault killing one, or two? Well that's two xenos who are now that much further away from mature crusher / mature boiler who aren't gathering monkeys. On the other hand are the survivors hostile? Well expect a few marines getting injured, maybe even killed and you're supplies getting raided.

This is the idea, until you realize the colonists have at most four underpowered and inaccurate weapons with MAYBE one reload for a pistol. The axe is the only viable weapon but even then a runner could EASILY take down two survivors before they even have a chance of getting helmets! Or, three runnersce up and tacklespam until the huggers are born. OR a spitter melts your defenses and neuros the team and hugs them. Xenos are already overpowered on purpose and a single runner can take down two marines if he's good. And here you have three unarmored, unhelmeted weak survivors who will most likely hide in a locker in IA until a spitter melts in and gets them. Good idea, but never happens

Survivor can be fun when you can "survive" the first 30 minutes. But most of the time it is frustrating trying to deal with xenos that no doubt are metaing the human survivors, knowing full well that if they let them escape, the marines will gather vital intel on their race and thus be harder to deal with. It is the reason why you have groups of xenos chase after a single colonist no matter how many they kill, because it is worth denying marines meta information.

That is why I don't really play it anymore... Going survivor more often than not just ends up with you joining the xenos, since fuck sitting out the rest of the round as a ghost, righto?

I don't get why people are talking about how the survivor is "useless". The purpose of this game is to have fun, and playing survivor is like playing CM at the hardest difficulty: Tense, but fun if you survive, especially if you group up with the other survivors. (By survive I mean by building fortresses or getting lots of guns and helmets and kicking ass. Obviously hiding in a locker is lame.)

Also, I'm not crazy about forcing aliens to avoid survivors and hunt monkeys. Again, the game is about fun, and what would you rather do as an alien: Hunt a dangerous prey that can potentially kill you or outwit you (an enjoyable challenge, in other words), or spend the first 30 min tediously transporting hapless monkeys around the map? One of these is fun, the other isn't.

Personally I prefer playing survivor for the gameplay rather than the RP. But if people do want better survivor RP, then it'd make more sense to buff survivors as Jembo suggested. It's a better solution than forcing aliens to do boring things.

In my own opinion you could really make something special out of survivors, currently they're just ''There'' like some said previously if you make them whitelist, make them write a detailed charachter and job etc it would totally change the atmopshere around survivors and perhaps marines would be more serious about rescueing them, personally i've been a survivor a good amount of times and you either have great roleplay with 1/2 others or just get into a ''Let's jump into a locker and wait for rescue'' which is how it ussually goes to my understanding.

The thing about that, however, is that aliens as of this build can carry huggers with ease. Survivors don't got any hugger protection. All a xeno has to do is rush in close, slap a hugger on a survivor or drop one near them, and it is all over for em.

When hugger combat was removed, survivors were somewhat buffed because now xenos had to beat em up or spam tackles constantly to get them back to the hive, which was very cumbersome and required a lot of effort for one host. That made it hard.

But right now, with hugger combat still currently in game, survivors are easy pickings for aliens, and even if the survivor escapes, they are still infested, and chances are they may pop before they find freedom.

That is why I rarely if ever play it, because xenos KNOW how easy you are to take out, and since you are important to the marines, they do everything in their power to ensure you are gone before they deploy.

Well this is an RP server, the fact that some people have fun using survivors to RP, at no cost to anyone else really, seems good enough to me. I know for a fact I've gotten my fair share of excellent RP moments as survivor. It's not for everyone, but it's fun if you are in that kind of mood.

There was an update? As far as I know, survivors are free to do anything they want until they get rescued, then they are subject to Marine rules.

At least as a MT I can superheat the vents and do god-tier defences to kill and stop aliens from killing the marines.. Maybe it's boring for you because you lack enough brain for that?

If you're always dying 10 minutes in as survivor, then you probably haven't played enough. There's no reason anyone can't last more than 10 minutes as survivor, if you know what to look for. Metal, welding helmets, guns and other survivors go a long way.

Yeah, MT can be fun during the last part of the game, assuming the aliens actually invade. At least combat engineers get to have fun on the surface. As MT you have 2 hours of tedium before you can have fun in the last 15 minutes or so, and that's only if the Marines defeat the aliens before they attack the Sulaco. Playing survivor may be risky, but at least you're in the action at the very start of the round.

I'm tired of people saying that welding helmets are the saving grace. I always get one ten minutes in, but you gotta realize that any competent xeno will just slash until crit since the guns are horribly innacurate and tacklespam works.

I once got spat by a spitter while traveling with a welding helmet. It dropped its huggers and slashed me to crit, tacklespammed me through a tunnel and nested THEN hugged me. Welding helmets prevent death for maybe a few seconds longer at best

Give survivors the ability to make hunting traps.

BOOM! Survivor survivability rates increase by over 100%, guaranteed.

Those things are OP as fuck and I /ALWAYS/ rush the temple early for them. If you have hunting traps + welding helmet + fireaxe, you can take down T2's during their stun no problem-o. Only Mature T2's + might give you a problem but if you team up with other survivors, hunting traps truly cuck xeno's. I am sure they can also stun T3's, but you need all 3 survivors with really good melee weapons to kill a T3 after its stunned.

I dont understand this question, they're useless? a job doesn't really need to be useful to be in the game, by that logic the CL is useless, they dont do anything, but they're in the game for roleplay reason, removing the survivor role would be dumb, in fact i heard they're getting some sort of update.

Mechanic wise? pointless

Atleast they got alot more ammo now so we see them a lot more and of course, RP.

Tbh if you managed to survive the hugger combat fest that is the first 30 minutes of the round (especially if the ENTIRE HIVE decides to come after you out of sheer boredom), then you deserve the right to be hostile survivor.

I dunno if most people who hate hostile survivors have actually played survivor, but surviving for the minimum of 30 minutes it takes for Marines to drop is hell 90% of the time because of the fact that the xenos make it a sport to hunt you down. And its not even because of the metaknowledge you hold (that is worthless now because of Fog so it really doesn't matter if you tell Command about the spooky lizard aliens) but because its much more fun to hunt something that is usually weaker than you (survivors) and they are the only thing there that they can hunt that can fight back.

Thats the general mentality amongst xenos, ive found, especially when im Queen and I see Young Runner's rush survivors at round start.

I watched three xenos die to a survivor after the queen made it very obvious not to engage with any hosts that might be hostile. One died in the hanger, the other two jumped into a disposal bin and got critted after it got flushed with the survivor. Queen was pissed that they lost a drone, hunter, and runner to one nerd. But hey gotta get dat juicy tall host.

Yeah after having a round where I was survivor and was hunted by a Young Runner literally 2 minutes into the round, killed it with a kitchen knife, then broke into secure storage and fought off HALF THE ENTIRE FUCKING HIVE, survivor really needs some adjustments on LV.

With the fog reducing half the places survivors can go, and the general boredom (and shittery) of most xeno players early game, the only thing they have left is to shit on Survivors and thats literally no fun central. They have no extra gear except randomized shit and they can be hugger combat'd once and then their round is over by a shitter who thinks picking on survivors is le funny meme.

Its not even a question of whether Survivor is a fun job or not once you get up to Sulaco, its a question of if you can even survive that long EVEN IF you have Secure Storage guns considering either half or even the entire hive will want to capture you via easy mode hugger combat.

The only time i was a survivor it was a good round, i spawned in the nexus cargo place and met up with 2 other survivors, 1 guy said "Lets go to the hive, there is a crashed ship with supplies" and so we foolishly charged into the hive. The threat wasn't xenos, it was a predator. So that 1 guy ran into there screaming with just a butcher knife, we heard firing noises and shit so we ran. We thought he had died. We broke into the sec place in the nexus and set up there. I got a gun and we waited. Then a hunter started breaking in. I fired off a few shots at the hunter. We then went into the firing range and were backed into a corner, the hunter i had shot got into the firing range and i fired off the rest of the bullets at it, most of them missed. It then started slashing me and tore my foot off, so i said to the other person "Pick up my gun and load it" he did and he started firing, i heard a click and said "Oh fuck" the hunter came back to finish us and right as he was slashing me the marines had arrived. The hunter ran away. I got transported to the rasp when the guy who ran into the hive said he fought off the predator. We went up to the rasp and i was healed. We asked an mp if we could get guns and he said yes, we got our guns and we went onto the pod with an sl. Right as it launched the aliens had boarded the rasp and were coming up to the sulaco. We thought we were fucked. So we went into the hive and fought off the rest of the xenos, destroying the eggs. The hunter who slashed me at the beginnng of the round pounced on me and i thought i was dead for sure. The hunter dragged me off and tried putting a facehugger on me, but the facehugger was dead. I laughed and the hunter got shot point blank with buckshot and went into crit. We then won a marine major.
