Lokiki - Spriter Application

Post by Lokiki_01 » 24 Oct 2017, 16:18

Byond ID:
Lokiki

Age:
20

Gender:
Male

How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter):
Spriter and low tier coder

If Coder, what languages?
C++

Any previous experience developing with SS13?
Yep, Escalation project

Proof of any previous or current work:

https://imgur.com/m08I80m - test of new sticky resin
https://imgur.com/Ln8rzG9 - AK set for Escalation, not totally mine work tho
https://imgur.com/PcQ7JcL - Cian walls, with working smooth
https://imgur.com/wqmCFZC - radio tower just for fun, not finished
https://imgur.com/3h7lGA5 - flak vest for USMC
https://imgur.com/VpzYQbf - more WIP stuff(road)
https://imgur.com/dGARxwV - some of my codework, just containers with stuff
https://imgur.com/6I5FVLm - garbage decals, never tried them ingame tho. Just sprites

How well do you know Git?
Good enough to not flood you with merges

Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? (Yes/No)
Yep, I actually don't want to be a moderator. And since I'm not a coder I don't need Mod access.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Welp, I'm hoping to learn about making sprites on a bit more serious level. And I really need to work with someone who's better than me to Git Gud. (._.)7
I'm ready to work in CM style, want to add something refreshing here.

I've talked to Lokiki a few times on the Escalation discords, pretty nice person.

Sprits arent really our style, aside from the first image which isn't anything large.

Yeah, the sprites don't really seem to fit our style.

Well, I'm waiting for a small assignment to make sure. Since you need turf sprites, I can try something from the list, and you will be able to decide if you need my ass here or not.

Sure. I can give you an assignment. Let me think of some things and I'll shoot you a PM.

The Radio Tower isn't bad in my opinion. I quite like it. Not sure if it would fit in CM, but it caught my eye.

I agree with josh, the radio tower is cool, I also think the trash sprites work well. Not sure if they fit our style, but its a good look, and i like it.

I also like your sticky resin. I was actually just about to rework something in the same vien.

looking forward to seeing what josh has you do for the test!

That's a definite improvement. Grass looks quite promising.

For the dirt between the grass, I think the color could be shifted a little more. For some reason, I think a shift towards a reddish brown might be beneficial, though it's hard to say.

If there's one game that explicitly got the jungle environment right, I'd say it was Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker.

Since it was originally a handheld game, most of the jungle floor was a mixture of dirt and moss, as grass was too expensive to render. The colors were also pretty distinct, which worked well. I'd perhaps draw some inspiration from here.

It looks better, but it looks like it lacks some of the small details we have in a lot of our stuff.

I guess this is it then. There's still work to do, I can improve it more, add more details, etc.
P.S. Don't look at the flower please >_>

Texture wise it looks good, but did you consider my color recommendations?

I worked with lokiki on escalation as a mapper and while I can't comment on how well his work fits your style I can say he is a genuinely nice dude and is fantastic to work with.

I made the dirt under the grass a bit more red, like 10 colors left on the paletter from the old one. Red roads were quite strange.

to mirror what the others said, your palette needs some work, and there are little stylistic things we have that vary from what you have, pretty easy fix- but i think your texture and tiling works well!

the style fix and palette stuff seems a minor, fixable issue. though id like to see how you handle perspective.

I can work on the style. Just need to look closer on examples, like BigRed dirt and dirt from LV. About pallete - I think I will need some hints from you.

Ill leave this thread for BMC to make a final rule on, Id be down to have you on for a test run. Joshuu and Gorg seem to agree as well. The changes you would need to improve on are fairly minor and easily correctable. Anyways, bailing from this thread so BMC/other staff can throw input and rulings in here

Not so much anymore, it won't hurt my work here.
