You might want to revise the pictures that have sentry boxes.

Other than that, cool shit and some good ideas for building.

What's the point of the racks? Just to put something else the aliens have to slice before they get through? Although I can see how it can be helpful to force marines to stay one tile behind the barricade so that they don't get hugged, slashed, acid splashed etc.

Racks force marines off the tile, they stop aliens from flipping your tables, they act as an additional stopper if they try to pounce through your lines, and I don't think runners can just run through them, so you don't have to worry about that either. Keep in mind my obsessive use of them has given one of our Devs the equivalent of PTSD and I doubt they'll be this useful for much longer.

Sidenote: SADAR rockets do not go over the racks, so either don't make them when there's a SADAR user around, or tell him he's not allowed into your rack fort.

Just want to quickly bump this guide and give new readers some extra information,

Racks: They no longer stop runners from passing by them, they still bonk on pounces though.

Defense Stacking: You can no longer put more than one barricade on a tile but one of our devs is working on fixing our ability to make sandbag corners, that should work again soon, so start working on *layers* of defense, and try to stick to Sandbags and Plasteel Barricades, these are your two strongest structures and should be taken advantage of whenever possible, try to keep your first line of defense as plasteel barricades and your larger, second line made up of sandbags, or be really scummy and just put a line of sandbags with racks on them infront of your plasteel cades.

karmac once we have corners is it a good tactic to write "FUCK XENOS" out of sandbags and then use the U, bottom line of the F, the C, X, bottom line of the E and the O for cover?

Included an example of a 'layered' defense, which hopefully we'll see more of, as you can't just spend all your resources on a single row of barricades anymore.

If sandbags don't block boiler bombs, just don't even bother with them anymore.

Boilers are what end all one hour FOB's and if you don't have a counter to them early, you might as well just give up and use plastisteel barricades with tables + racks infront or behind.

Boilers will always be the biggest threat to an FOB and taking them out early on is just something that needs to be placed as high priority, people don't really target specific xenos but they need to start doing it whenever possible.

I haven't checked the sandbags blocking globs, but I'm yet to see one go past a sandbag row, so I'm unsure of that.

Well it looks like Boilers and Runners will always be the bane of well-built defenses.

Eh, you can build your FOB near natural colony defense such as R-walls nearby which force a boiler to get close to gas your defenses, giving you a chance.

That, alongside table + rack + plastisteel spam is the only reliable strategy left. But I think they removed stacking on plastisteel as well, which is a clear nerf on Engineering /ONCE AGAIN/ if they did, then most FOB's will just fall to one good xeno offensive unless they have a shit ton of mounted guns and/or sentry guns.

This probably comes down to the whole "marines are supposed to lose" idea, which is preddy dissapointing.

You can still stack tables and sandbags/r-baricades on 1 tile, but cant do this racks, so its fine for now. Kind of.

Bump. Gonna be redoing this as soon as I get my PC back and including actual information, so hype for that I guess. Unless somebody else bothers making a defense guide between now and then, which I doubt will happen.

Bumping this again, most of it's out of date but from the images people have been posting in the discord it's easy to see the new players need to take a look at what an FOB should at least mildly resemble.

Even godly FOB's are being trampled in 30 mins, maximum as of current high pop battles.

Most of it is contributed to the fact that we are playing LV, which allows all the already buffed xenos to reach Elite T2's and Mature T3's without any struggle, which means when they get released on the marines and their FOB they get oblitered by a blitzkrieg of r-wall crushing rhinos and unstunnable Ravagers who claw limbs off or break bones in a few slashes. Don't even get me started on the Runners that bypass all barricades and are only countered by a good smart gunner.

You mean crushers that can if you are unlucky break your bones with one slash, ravagers that can decap you with one slash, even at young, if you are unlucky.

Hey, there's always secure storage megafort. I remember when I made that single handily with Boris in the background going 'Wow!' every 10 minutes, got the admins to recognise it and everything. Fun times, turrets in every cardinal direction and 3 layers of plasteel barricades and R-tables as well as racks, over 200 plasteel from cargo, mined to absolute shit. It was a good one, I had a screenshot of it on my old computer

Great, and im sure said FOB got avoided since xenos can just take the bird up.

I love watching godly FOB's in other locations take place but the are absolutely useless when xenos realize they can take the bird up and completely ignore your FOB.

yea but I do it for the Memes, not any tactical benefit. I've played CM since the days of basing on the goddamn science outpost on the Nostromo and dick shaped boarding ships and 2 man escape pods from the Suluco, I just don't put in too much effort into actually 'playing' the game and put more into having fun while doing it.
And you forget, aliens are stupid.

Lucius points out the exact reason I used to do T-Comms FOBs on old Ice, aliens could ignore it, but they never did for some idiotic reason.
