    There is even thing as simple as - With every engine/balance/change_at_all (talking about F2P games alltogether) part of playerbase is pissed off because MUH FAV PART IS GONE/REDONE/DIFFERENT. Also, everyone always underestimates the power of habit.

    The problem is you can't deviate from the original gameplay without hamfisting code in. CM is just a barebones Bay server, with everything stripped off and put to combat mechanics. Halo station is just bay with halo sprites and guns, and FTL is just tg but there's no traitors and off screen interactions

    How many completely different overhauls have to be made to start calling something an engine, or platform. SS13 seems to be a base that people take and do what they want to with it, just like a game engine

    Not really my point, question was how many overhauls to any game would there need to be before it starts to blur the line between game and engine. Something like minecraft could be an example where it's a game in its own right but people took the base to make their own "games" like battle royale, RPGs, etc

    The engine in this case would be byond as it handles the networking and some of the graphical stuff.
