Add Space Cleaner Dispensers to Medbay

Post by Surrealistik » 07 Jul 2016, 13:09

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Per title.

A Space Cleaner Dispenser could easily be a recoloured Virus Food/Sulfuric Acid wall mounted dispenser like the ones seen here: http://i.imgur.com/Uxpv3tk.png (dark and light blue tank things mounted on the wall near the laundry and sleeper area).

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Stops the Medbay from ultimately devolving into a disgusting, unhygenic cesspit of ungodly filth, blood and puke without having to waste ridiculous amounts of chem charge on cleaning fluid.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Add Space Cleaner Dispensers at regular intervals throughout Medbay.

Dispensers work by dispensing their contents to a beaker/other reagent holder of some kind.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Minor coding mostly involving copy-pasta of Sulfuric Acid Dispensers and replacement of Sulfuric Acid with Space Cleaner. Bonus points if the dispenser is made to generate more Space Cleaner over time or has an infinite supply.

Recolouration of Sulfuric Acid Dispenser sprite.

How many doctors clean though? It seems as if no one cleans med-bay.

I clean it when I get downtime (rare).

Unfortunately you go through Space Cleaner _fast_.

I'd love to have enough time as someone in MedSci to scrub individual tiles. :\

There's spare space cleaner bottles around medbay if you need to clean medbay currently before any action gets done with this suggestion.

When I say that the Space Cleaner gets exhausted quickly, that includes the spare bottles.

But you can fill them with water (sinks in the OR) which does pretty much the same job :|, -1

Well yes and no, I wasted alot more time than I should have but from what I found, if you mix consists of X>10% space cleaner (can't actually confirm the exact percentage but closest 5% I can get since you don't slip at 15%) you won't slip, and if you are watered down your SC bottles to a ratio of 1:10 due to cleaning, you probably have bigger issues to deal with than cleaning medbay

Well that's the thing, in practice, who is going to track the amount then head down to an OR for water? Better to just have dispensers stationed around Medbay at regular intervals; again, quality of life for the most overworked department in the game.

In terms of the effort required, it takes almost no time to code, sprite, implement and slap this dispenser on the wall; I did it in minutes: replace the orange pixels on sulfuric acid dispensers with blue, copy pasta the sulfuric acid dispenser code, and change the acid content to space cleaner. I could supply all of the assets myself if necessary as I have them ready.

A standard bottle of space cleaner has 250u of space cleaner in it, that would be around 25 spritzes default which can easily be extended to 166 (this was with .15% sc in the bottle) spritzes which would cover 666 Tiles (the range of a spray bottle is around 4 tiles if I remember) before you have to actually put space cleaner back into it. Honestly I never seen a spray bottle run empty since its not hard to just to fill up after cleaning up a mess. Also this isn't medical's job, its up to the MTs to do the cleaning, to be power-gamey as well, blood and filth provide no negatives besides looking bad in standard SS13 if I remember correctly blood and vomit were ways to transmit diseases, which is why medical generally has to be clean

Again, who actually goes to the OR explicitly to dilute the cleaner?

Little effort is required to do implement this. MTs don't do shit, and you know it. Yes, blood and puke doesn't have a mechanical impact due to the lack of disease, but I'd rather medbay not be deluged in waste.

Because it's so difficult for someone to note the clock in the bottom right corner of your screen and slap on 4 minutes before using a pill to be absolutely sure they won't OD, right (tick timing can be inconsistent/dilated due to lag)? Veteran players use my stims to good effect, praise them consistently and never report problems with ODing. Hell, if you don't care about maximizing the benefit, just pop them when they're truly needed, and you know beyond any shadow of doubt that you haven't had one in the past 4 minutes or so.

Furthermore, using cleaner on several dispensers located throughout medbay is indisputably more convenient than camping out in the ORs; quality of life is about convenience and time saving.

Yes, I agree that Janitors should be brought back. +1

But in seriousness, additional cleanliness is always recommended, and having the proper (and efficient) equipment such as a Space Cleaner Dispenser sounds superb to me.

+1, I'd also like surgery cleaner dispensers in the ORs. I know currently it's just space cleaner with a different name, but I like to imagine it's different and they are perfect to sterilize the tools and table after surgeries. But if you click on every used tool after every surgery, it is gone fast. When I make more I mix sterilizine with space cleaner.

1+ would like to see this implemented. Perhaps medbay could also spawn with some cleaning bots in the storage room to help out.

+1 to putting this in a janitor maint area. I tend to as researcher if Im terribly bored I'll make space cleaner/sterilizine mixtures and start cleaning but it is......super rare. I could just make more grenades. Wish we had that janitor back. I really do.
