This discussion is from one of my previous post from the past : Is it possible that CM may add a vehicle or not (Discussion)

I thought it be nice to bring this subject back up for thoughts on it. so far its been 8 months since i posted it for more information on it

I had a thought about it when i saw that "Hangar Space: 2 AUD-25 dropships, 2 M577 APCs, 1 M34A2 Longstreet light tank" this was some time ago when
they had not updated the Almayer map and had not removed the contents of the hanger.There was also a broken down APC in the hanger of the sulaco. May the sulaco rest in peace...

I wanted some of your thoughts on this subject and some of your ideas on it.

I think they can, but it will lag the server to shit. They did have a vehicle in the Sulaco but it was purely cosmetic.

WELL, I don't think it would be HORRIBLE seeing how the WW1 server (I think it was WW1) had a train that moved across the map, and it was a pretty big one with a long distance to go. It didn't lag too badly but it was pretty glitchy. I think it would be possible but a fucking dick to code.

I see why because vehicles have never been implemented in the CM code before except the dropships.
But if they were to possibly look as some other codes from other Beyond games or other servers it could help smooth things of course it would
need testing before actually being implemented tho.But even if they were to smooth things out with it i still dont think they would add it

if they do add it, it should be transport only, something that could carry a fire team, 4 to 6 marines

I agree with you Simo it doesnt have to be something with guns on it at least something to get marines around quicker with out being slaughter by xenos or a faster way to get supplies around on the ground level theres only one problem iv been told by a few people even a admin that there would need to be more people to even think about adding vehicles.

This has been suggested previously, and the answer is no.

The maps do not have enough space for an APC vehicle.

I think we should have a desert map, seeing as the Alamo has the camo for it. If we make one, we could easily have enough space to make a train or something along those lines for a vehicle. Just imagine xenos chasing it while the marines shoot from it. Intense man.

Interesting. I agree with the decision not to have an in-game vehicle, but I did not know that their implementation would be possible due to the extension of the maps and the complexes of each.

I understand your opinions and answers on this apophis775 and NescauComToddy but eventually if the server gets big enough or so you will have some kind of transportation it cant be just dropships forever the maps may even need to get bigger at some point plus think of how useful it be to not get slaughtered by xenos while traveling plus it would help alot with crates on the ground transporting it faster on ground with out it get stolen or destroyed.

That would most likely be some kind of orbital drop pod than a vehicle with crapton of bugs attached to it

lol. no.

Limitations of byond aside, the scope of this game is large enough as it is. it is 2d, top down, and tile based. It isnt going to happen, especially anything above one person vehicles like the tugs, which frankly, allready cause too much shit in game.

How do you land inside a cave or building though? Most hives are usually in one or the other...

How about we think of other possibilities for vehicles and creative ways to bring Marines into combat? Drop Pods were mentioned, this could be a neat idea to play off of. I'm not sure how hard it would be to code a Drop Pod system into the game although I feel like you could piggyback off the Supply Beacon system for this.

Have Drop Pods target a designated area and provide a coded offset to simulate atmospheric conditions pushing the pods off course just slightly, etc. Have these Drop Pods be used as a form of combat entry middle-late game after approval from Command, etc.

4-8 pods total or more, however many you want to introduce. The Marines who board these pods and land on their target would be a shock squad that could be used to break a stalemate or a fortified xeno position.

Thoughts?

Read Apop's response. Technically possible, but I wouldn't hold your breath. BYOND isn't built to handle that sort of transition very well (due to tile-based movement), and it would cause gameplay concerns in terms of how to handle interaction with the vehicle.
