Lumdor - Moderator Application

Post by Lumdor » 15 Nov 2017, 11:42

Byond ID: Lumdor

Colonial Marines Character: Bob Shoe

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Timezone: CST

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Not sure on the exact numbers but I've usually been putting in 20+ hours a week.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
During 2013 - 2014 I was an server admin for a extremely popular DarkRP called thatdarkrpserver. During this time they were on the top of the Gmod server list.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
Played a bit during early 2017, so was able to experience the Sulaco if that's what you're meaning. Never got to experience the old ass versions of Colonial Marines during 2014.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
Mainly play CM about 95% of the time; the other 5% is when I'm feeling some /tg/.

Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
First CO application viewtopic.php?f=143&t=14691

Second CO application viewtopic.php?f=142&t=15202

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Currently I'm not staffing anywhere else besides here as a mentor.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
Never ever.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
SS13 related none, but back from 2012 - 2014 during my Gmod era I got banned a number of times.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Yes, use it often as a mentor.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
Messaging the player will be my first course of action. While awaiting a reply I'll be searching through their note's (if they have any at all), and seeing if they've had a similar incident in the past. Checking their note's I'll deduce if it was an accident or an intentional grief. If it was an accident than I'll leave it as an IC issue for the MP's too deal with; if said person was intentionally griefing than I'll make a note and hand out a 24h ban. This person may also be new to our server so if it was an accident I may try and help the said person so they do not have a similar incident again.

2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
If the breach was caused by an IC event (like the DS crashing into the ship) than I'll leave it alone. If it was caused by a player on the ship than I'll patch the breach and heal anyone that was a casualty of the event. After that has been handled I'll investigate the person who caused the breach. PMing them will be my first step; from there I'll see if it was of malcious intent or not. Checking their note's if they've had a history of causing a breach then I'll leave another note and hand out a three day ban. Otherwise if it was an accident I'll leave it as a warning/note, and a steern talking.

3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
First I would check which staff are online and see if there is a mentor on; at that point I'll msay and tell our mentor that a new player may need help. If there is no mentor online than I'll handle it myself and contact the player asking them if they're new to our server and if they need any help. Usually I'll try and guide a new player to some of our guide's, or try and guide them to their prep room. Usually if they get a hang of things I'll tell them to message me whenever they need further guidance.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
Simple, try and help the player the best I can, but if they continue to be rude and seek an Admin+ then I'll tell them they're not entitled to speak too whomever they seek. However if an Admin+ is already online and wants too intervene than that will be that.

5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I'd link them to our naming rule and tell them to make sure that they change it the next round. If they continue to not change their name then I'd put a note on their account regarding the issue and hand them a three hour ban.

6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
This is all a IC issue; nothing on my end would be done and the MP's ingame would be the people to deal with it.

7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Remind the Squad Medic that he does not have ICLY knowledge of how to conduct surgery. I'd check his note's just by chance the player has done something similar before; if he has then I'll note him again and hand out a three hour ban and a possible job ban. If the player has no note of doing this before then I'll note/warn the player.

8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
For both sides I'd send out a Queen Mother message or an USCM High Command message. For the alien side it would be something telling the Queen that she must spread the Hive to the "tallhost metal hive in the sky"; for marine I'd send that the USCM must continue the assault onto the enemy below so that we may take back the colony.

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
I'd tell the Iron Bear that EORG does not apply to apposing factions (human vs. xeno as an example), and that they are free to continue fighting once the round ends.

10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
Simple, this is an IC issue that should be dealt with by the MP's. Now if none are online, and the player continues to act in this manner; then I'll message them telling them to stop this type of behaviour.

11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
First starting off I'd ask each player what happened; once we get both sides of the story I'll make my judgement. If the accused marine killed the other marine after just a single punch then I'll check the players note's and see if they have done something similar in the past; if this is a first time occurrence then I'll issue a note and a three hour ban. Say the marine punched the other marine multiple times and was acting extremely hostile towards the other marine then I'll leave it as an IC issue.

12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
Going into slack and pinging for an Admin+ will be my first step; if none reply/come onto the server I'll then try on our Discord staff only channel. If all of that fails then I'll record/screenshot the issue making sure I get enough information to pass along to an Admin+.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Minor racism ingame is fine, but if it gets out of hand then I'll intervene. I'll tell the player in the ahelp that minor racism is fine, but if it gets out of hand to contact us again. Though I'll investigate making sure that it was just a case of "minor racism".

14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
I'd issue out a 7 day ban as this type of behaviour is not welcomed on our server. If they've done something like this before then I'll request for a perma on the forums. Everyone involved that was injuried/killed will be healed, and the round will continue on.

15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
If they burst right in front of a group marines which would technically be the frontlines then I'll do nothing. Though if they go out of there way too run across the map and get killed then I'll note them, issue a three hour ban, and a job ban from xeno.

16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
PM them and warn them to cut it out, as xeno roleplaying has been ramped up; also a note will be given. If they continue to ignore me then I'll issue another note and a three hour ban.

17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
Tell the player that the Hive mind is all interpreted speech ie (metal bird, dropship, tallhosts, ect.), and that it would not be (metagaming/failRP).

18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
I'd begin by pming the player that they have no IC knowledge of what they're facing on the ground below. They would be warned and a note pinned to their account. If this is not their first offence of doing something like this then I'll note it down again and issue a command job ban. Also to keep the integrity of the round I'd tell the marines in OOC that they're not aware of what type of threat is on the ground below.

19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
This is a bit in the iffy line as it's kind of a dick move to do something like this, but if roleplay before the event followed and there was some sort of confrontation then I'll let it go as an IC issue. If the marine just shoots the other marine without any RP beforehand then I'll warn them and give them a note; if they have prior warnings for this before then I'll hand out a three hour ban.

20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
I'd tell them over msay that they gave the wrong information or enforced a rule incorrectly, and I'd provide them with the proper information.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
OBS and screenshoting all proof and evidence will be my first step. Second step would be to provide the information to either NGGJamie for mentors or Jerkface for moderators; if it's bigger then them I would provide the information to either Feweh or Apop.

21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
I'd laugh about it and leave it alone.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
Hope you'll have a great day!

I like Lumdor and seeing their initial answers It's a +1 from me. I'm going to closely look at this app more in a little bit. I know Lumdor is more than competent enough to handle this mod position, and I've been able to witness their progress as of the recent. I wouldn't mind Lumdor as a trial mod to atleast give him a shot I'll probably ask questions later. The way you answered the questions as well is good +1

I like your answers but want you to answer a few questions based on some of them.

I think Lumdor could handle being a mod and would like to see how they manage the trial period at least, so I'll give it my +1.

2. Causing atmos issues and intentional breaches are noted to be worth a ban by themselves in the server rules, why do you feel a note and warning would suffice for something that could cause massive harm?
If the said person did not intend on what they did to be malicious or simply made a mistake and are able to explain this to me than I believe a simple warning and note would solve this issue. As the breach might of not killed a single person it is something that can be easily fixed, and make the person who made the breach know what they did was wrong. I'd like to not try and be an ass and have reasonable doubt that the person did not intend on causing harm, and if the person is respectable and seems to feel sorry for what they did than a warning/note should be the slap on the wrist they get for a first time offense.
Though if they ended up killing a bunch of people and it was a first time offense I believe at that point the chargers would go up to a note/three hour ban. Even if it was an accident and they explained what happened I'd try and not come off as a dick or saying they were stupid, but would try and tell them how they can make sure this does not happen again, and then hand out the note/ban.

4. What if there is no admin on and the player continues to be rude to you, what if they are being rude to you when an admin doesn't need to take the case and it can be handled by a moderator?
If you're meaning by them constantly spamming me to the point of being harassing then I'd give them a warning to stop spamming/harassing me and if they continue then a note plus a three hour ban will be handed out to them. I believe that way if this behavior comes up onto another moderator then they can deal with it a bit easier, as the person has already been labeled as a "bad egg".

8. Moderators don't have access to high command messages, what we can use however is subtle messages to keep it IC.
To be honest I was unaware of this. At that point I'd use the Queen Mother message on the aliens like I stated above. Though I could send a subtle message to whomever was the acting commander saying something like "You feel the urge to deploy the marines and take back the colony." Also waiting for the bio-scan is another option that way I'd be able to see what the acting commander does with that information.

19. You'll apply a ban in 11 when they don't have sufficient reason to kill, but you'll apply a warning and a note here when they don't have a sufficient reason or any roleplay before the murder? Seems an inconsistency of judgement.
Aye you're correct believe I did make a mistake on that part. Believe on 19 I was reading to much into the escaping part, and kind of circumvented away from it as being as serious as a random killing in the middle of the round. As you're right I'd apply a note/three hour ban if said person just walked up to the escape pod and killed someone to get on.

I like you, but you've only been a mentor for 1 month, and we normally require more time to be put in as a staff member before moving up from mentor to mod.

Understandable, mostly I put this application in as we usually have a low number of moderators compared to mentors during the times that I play. Thought it only seemed logical to try and move up so I'd be able to assist the mod team in some way.

2 - Was not aware that this was a thing; thanks for informing me.

5 - You're right on the note checking part; most of these I'd check the notes first, but for this sitautions I was more assuming it was a first time thing.

6 - I believe this would still be an IC issue and would be left alone; unless this person was partaking in extremely low-rp behavior.

7 - If this is true then this whole situation would not of been able to happen.

11 - You're right this would be investigated thoroughly, and anything they say will be looked at by the combat logs. Was trying to not make it an eye sore to read :-P.

15 - Yeah situations vary, but my understanding something like this was a straight job ban; unless that has changed?

16 - My bad on that for the application I was more assuming that they had no history of doing this, but yes I'd check their notes before anything else to see if they've done this before.

19 - Explained in more detail to Solarmare's question.

21 - Yeah on this I'd really only do something if they were spamming that shit in a harassing manner.

Appreciate your response and that you took the time to read my application!

Hope I can help you out during your low-pop hour's.

Also you're a trash RO  .

The answers are great, Sky has already pointed out most of it so I will not go into a full analysis.

You've recently joined the staff. But you seem to be a good mentor and player, I think you would adapt to the role and any remaining problems could be fixed in the trial period. You're getting my +1.

I like your answers, and I think you answered the criticisms well enough.
You're also really active during the time no moderators and a swarm of mentors are on.

Those things you are off on, you'll learn quick enough.
